DEFINITION
The Positive Temperature Coefficient(PTC) Thermistor is a thermally sensitive semiconductor resistor. Its main characteristic is a sharp increase in resistance at a certain temperature. This is the so called Reference Temperature (T_ref) or Curie Temperature (T_c). With changes in ceramic composition, the temperature can be changed or defined in the range between 20°C and 340°C.
The resistor has also been named the PTC thermistor, due to the positive resistance temperature characteristic. We are also simply referred to as the PTCR.

DESIGN
PTCR are made of ceramic material sintered at a high temperature (below 1400°C). The ceramic base is of BaTiO₃ with additives to attain semiconductive characteristcs and the desired curie temperature.
Standard shape is a ceramic disc, either round or annular or rectangular with thickness of 0.5mm to 5mm. The metal coating on both sides serves as a direct electrical contact whereas wire leads are used for printed circuit mounting or for similar usage.

FEATURES

4.As being adjustable to size and resistance value of element, rated voltage can be set in a wide range from 1.5V to 1000V.
